A message from the OHTN about ACT

The first case of HIV in Canada was reported in March 1982. In response, ACT was founded in 1983. The recent announcement that ACT will close its doors after 42 years of unwavering and vital service to our community is a profound loss.

ACT has been at the forefront of HIV advocacy and service in Toronto since its founding. We at the OHTN deeply regret this loss. We also recognize that the work that ACT pioneered will continue via other community service providers and clinics in Toronto and across Ontario.

Today we stand in solidarity with the ACT leadership, staff, clients and the broader sector to express our deep gratitude for the work and leadership of this organization. ACT has made a huge difference to the lives and health outcomes of thousands of people at risk and living with HIV.

As the epidemic continues to evolve, we know the fight is no less urgent today. The OHTN commits to continuing to support our community and partners in the sector to ensure the work of ACT continues into the future.
