Ontario PrEP Website

Videos and resources for providers on prescribing PrEP, supporting clients on PrEP, and paying for PrEP.

PrEPStart Program

PrEPStart provides three months of free PrEP for your clients who are at risk of HIV and do not currently have drug coverage. This initiative lets them start PrEP right away and gives them three months to arrange drug coverage so they can stay on PrEP as long as needed.

Ontario Guidelines for Providers Offering HIV Testing

These Guidelines were developed by the OHTN in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario, Ontario College of Family Physicians, and Ontario-based clinicians and testing providers. Released in 2023, they represent a progressive step forward in efforts toward the elimination of new HIV infections in Ontario.

GetaKit

GetaKit is a University of Ottawa study to evaluate an online assessment and mail-out system for sexual health services, including testing and prevention. Available services can include HIV self-tests and lab-based testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia.

Clinical Care

Rapid Linkage to Care Initiative

The OHTN Rapid Linkage to Care Initiative was implemented to fund laboratory, diagnostics and specialist consultation fees for precariously insured people living with HIV in Ontario. Because funds are limited, this initiative DOES NOT cover hospital fees/ specialist fees/ provider fees incurred from ongoing HIV care. Please contact Sarah Ionson directly at [email protected]

Ontario Clinical Care Guidelines

These Guidelines set out evidence-based practices for clinicians to help engage people with HIV in care in a timely way, retain them in care, address challenges that may cause them to fall out of care, assess them for relevant health issues across their life course, and monitor all aspects of their health, including access and adherence to ART.

CPARG concensus recommendations for infant feeding in the HIV context

Published in 2023 by the Canadian Pediatric & Perinatal HIV/AIDS Research Group (CPARG).

Educational sessions for clinicians in the HIV field.

OHTN Health HIVe

An online education portal for community and healthcare providers interested in quality HIV care. The resources are aimed at HIV clinics, community-based HIV/AIDS organizations, and HIV testing programs in Ontario and beyond.

CATIE

CATIE strengthens Canada’s response to HIV and hepatitis C by bridging research and practice.

Examples of available resources targeted towards clinicians include the HIV Handbook, the Ordering Centre where free hard copies of client resources can be ordered, and factsheets on HIV medications.

SAGE

Sage supports the information access of HIV and hepatitis C service providers by providing a centralized, online, community-driven space for the collection and dissemination of Canadian-produced digital information resources relevant to HIV and hepatitis C.

PHAC Syphilis & HIV U=U Resource Hub

This campaign aims to raise awareness about prevention, testing, treatment and care for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI), and addresses stigma and discrimination associated with STBBI.

Community Supports

HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO)

HALCO provides free legal services for people living with HIV in Ontario. In addition to providing people with referrals, advice and/or representation, HALCO engages in public legal education and law reform activities. Please refer clients to HALCO and contact Ryan Peck for educational workshops at [email protected].

HALCO generally focuses on HIV-specific issues such as HIV-related discrimination, privacy of health information and access to medications. However, HALCO also provides assistance with some other issues including immigration/refugee law and income support (e.g., Ontario Disability Support Program). There are no financial eligibility guidelines for clients seeking advice and referrals, but there are for representation services.

Ontario AIDS Network (OAN)

Representing 45 AIDS service organizations in the province, the OAN advocates for sustainable funding, user-friendly legislation, and state-of-the-art treatment for all persons living with HIV/AIDS in the province.

The OHTN Cohort Study

The Ontario HIV Treatment Network Cohort Study (OCS) is the largest community-governed HIV cohort in Ontario and is one of the largest cohort studies in North America.

Ontario HIV Epidemiology and Surveillance Initiative (OHESI)

OHESI produces regular blog posts and reports to analyze patterns in HIV testing, diagnoses and the HIV care cascade.

OHTN Rapid Responses

The OHTN Rapid Response Service provides access to research evidence in response to questions from community-based HIV/AIDS organizations, as well as policy-makers, healthcare providers, academic researchers, and others in Ontario to help support evidence-informed programs, service delivery and policy.

OACHA is an advisory agency of the provincial government with the mandate to provide strategic advice to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on all aspects of HIV-related education, prevention, treatment, care and support in Ontario.
