Employment Change and Health Outcomes (ECHO) Study

We are studying how employment (or lack thereof) may affect the health of people living with HIV in Ontario and how the health of people living with HIV may affect their employment (or ability to find employment). Funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, this community-based research study will follow 600 HIV positive people for two years through a series of questions about their employment status and health. The questionnaires are administered face-to-face by peer research assistants across Ontario in various AIDS Service Organizations. Participating ASOs include:

  • Toronto PWA Foundation
  • Bruce House
  • AIDS Niagara
  • Access AIDS Network
  • AIDS Committee of Toronto
  • AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area
  • AIDS Committee of Guelph & Wellington County

This study represents a significant step towards understanding a complex problem that is critical for improving the health and well-being of people living with HIV in Ontario. This study will also provide much needed information for policy makers developing employment strategies for people with HIV.
