Community Based Research
Community-based
research brings researchers together with members of the community to:
- Identify the issues
- Collect, analyze and interpret the data
- Decide how to use the results to:
- Inform policy
- Change practice
- Improve conditions in the community
The following principles inform community-based HIV research:

- Multiple forms of knowledge
- Action outcomes
The OHTN actively supports and encourages quality HIV-related community-based research in Ontario by:
- Building strong networks among community members, academic researchers and policymakers and service providers to develop competitive research proposals that address community priorities
- Enhancing the research capacity of community-based organizations by providing career support, assistance with grant writing, and funding protocol development for community based researchers
- Promote the exchange of knowledge created by it
