Call for Abstracts - Leading Together 2010: The 6th Canadian HIV/AIDS Skill Building Symposium

The deadline for poster and workshop abstract submissions has been extended to Friday, September 18, 2009.  Leading Together 2010 presents a unique opportunity for interactive learning, skills training, cooperation and knowledge exchange to strengthen our nation’s community-based response to HIV/AIDS. Set to attract over 800 participants, the symposium will be a bilingual event in Montreal, Quebec, March 4- 7, 2009. The Call for Abstracts contains additional information.

Symposium:  Getting to Uptake: Leveraging Social Innovation for Practice Change

The Community Health Systems Resource Group, the Learning Institute and the Hospital for Sick Children will present Getting to Uptake on September 23, 2009, in Toronto. The symposium will bring new ideas from business and social media enterprise to a gathering of experts from the children’s sectors to explore how social media innovations and new thinking might leverage organizational change in education and mental health. For more information please refer to the event website.

Research with Pride:  Community Based Research and LGBTT2Q Communities

The student-led forum, Research with Pride, will take place at the University of Toronto on Friday, October 2, 2009. The forum provides an opportunity for community members, academics and students to explore community-based research (CBR) for and about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirit and queer people and communities. Visit the event website for additional information. 

University of Michigan:  Junior Faculty Position in Women’s Studies (HIV Prevention Studies)

Applicants are invited for a non-tenured, tenure-track assistant professor position in HIV Prevention Studies at the University of Michigan Department of Women’s Studies.  Applications are welcomed from all relevant disciplines and candidates should have a demonstrated interest and expertise in the social dimensions of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. Review of applications begins October 10th and will continue until the position in filled. Please refer to the job posting for additional requirements and processes.     


Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Applied Research Fellowships Call for Applications

The CDC is recruiting to fill approximately five Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship positions for 2010. The Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellows assess the impact of public health policies, programs and practices on health outcomes by determining efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency through modeling and analytic methods. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in one of the designated fields and the application period closes November 13, 2009. For more information, please refer to the posting.


Social Theory & Health Special Issue: HIV/AIDS
