2010 OHTN Annual Research Conference: Deadline to Submit Abstracts is September 7

Themed on Research at the Front Lines: Targeting the Complexities of HIV, the 12th Annual OHTN Research Conference on November 15-16, 2010, will explore research and evidence-based interventions targeting HIV and other factors and conditions that intersect with HIV to increase vulnerability, worsen health outcomes, and complicate care and treatment for people with HIV. The final deadline to submit an abstract, satellite event or artistic proposal to the 12th Annual Research Conference is September 7, 2010. AIDS Committee of Toronto: Community Health Forum on September 15

The AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT) will host a free Community Health Forum for people living with HIV/AIDS on HIV and the Social Determinants of Health on September 15, 2010. ACT provides a wide range of programs and services for people living with, affected by and at risk for HIV. This open discussion will explore housing, isolation and continuum of care while ageing, self esteem, support groups and healthier life choices, and HIV stigma and discrimination. Prisoners HIV/AIDS Support Action Network: Annual General Meeting on September 15

The Prisoners HIV/AIDS Support Action Network (PASAN) will host its Annual General Meeting in Toronto on September 15, 2010. PASAN is a community-based network of prisoners, ex-prisoners, organizations, activists and individuals working together to provide advocacy, education, and support to prisoners on HIV/AIDS, HCV and related issues. National Advisory Committee for 2010 World AIDS Day: Participant Applications due August 27

The Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) is seeking six people living with HIV to join a National Advisory Committee to help develop, promote and evaluate its 2010 World AIDS Day awareness campaign. The selection of committee members will be guided by CAS' commitment to reflecting the diversity of Canada’s geographic regions, the populations most affected by HIV, and key stakeholders in the HIV/AIDS community. The deadline to submit a letter of interest is August 27, 2010 at 5 pm EDT. For more information, see the Call for Participants and the Terms of Reference.  

Ontario Advisory Committee Needs your Input on Provincial AIDS Strategy by September 8

In June 2002, the Ontario Advisory Committee on HIV/AIDS published A Proposed HIV/AIDS Strategy for Ontario to 2008 to provide direction for the province’s response to HIV/AIDS. It is now time to revisit this strategy and build on what has been accomplished to-date. Ontario values the input of people living with HIV, communities at risk, service providers, researchers and policy makers in this process. Help shape Ontario’s HIV/AIDS programs over the next 5 to 10 years by completing an online survey today, available in English and in French. The survey closes September 8, 2010 . Questions? New Website: What Works for Women and Girls in HIV/AIDS Interventions

The Open Society Institute’s Public Health Program is pleased to announce a groundbreaking new online resource to guide donors, policy makers and program managers in planning effective HIV/AIDS interventions for women and girls. The new web-based resource contains a “one-stop shop” comprehensive review of successful HIV programming for women and girls spanning 2,000 articles and reports with data from more than 90 countries. What Works for Women and Girls: Evidence for HIV/AIDS Interventions is now available at www.whatworksforwomen.org.
