Tutorial Sessions for Spring Competition Applicants

Session 1: Elements of an OHTN application – Studentships, Postdoctoral Fellowships, and Junior Investigator Development Awards.
This short session will cover the basics of an OHTN application, including a brief overview of the Research Project / Research Program Description (and how it’s different from other
trainee award applications), the Plain Language Summary, and the Community Engagement Plan.
Note: Participants are encouraged to ask questions. Review the guidelines and come prepared!
Date & Time: February 16, 2011 – 10:30am – 11:30am
Session 2:
Community Engagement – what does it mean, and why do we ask for it?
This short session will describe the process of community engagement and its history in relation to the OHTN. Participants will be given tips on how to develop an authentic
community engagement plan that is relevant to their research project.
Note: Participants are encouraged to come with their ideas ready, and to ask questions.

Session 3: The relevance of attachments to your application
This short session will give you some insight into why documents such as reference letters, support letters, consent forms, supervisor’s material and CVs are so important to your
overall application, and how they can complement and complete your research plan.
Date & Time: March 22, 2011 – 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Session 4: Q&A for applicants
This session will be open to any applicants who have non-confidential questions about their application or the application process (including the peer-review process).
Research Development staff will be ready with a list of commonly asked questions to review.
Note: Participants are encouraged to send questions ahead of time to ensure a response.
