Working with our Research Network, the OHTN:
  • Leveraged the Positive Spaces Healthy Places findings to secure $19 million in government funding for new supportive housing for PHAs in Toronto (a 35% increase) and $200,000 in new funding for supportive housing for PHAs in southwestern Ontario
  • Linked the OHTN Cohort Study with the North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design (NA-ACCORD).  Data from the NA-Accord led to the WHO recommending that doctors initiate HAART at a CD4 count between 351 and 500 cells/mm3
  • Supported 148 Investigator Driven Research Projects between 1998 and 2008
  • Supported 110 researchers through salary awards between 1998 and 2008
  • Between 1998 and 2008, invested $17.6 million in basic science, $7.8 million in clinical research, $5.6 million in socio behavioural research $3.3 million in epidemiological research, $850,000 in community-based research, and $500,000 in prevention research
  • Attracted 3,450 researchers, policy makers, community members and people with HIV to research conferences between 1998 and 2008
  • Provided a venue for 165 researchers to present 70 oral abstracts and 95 posters to 682 participants at the 2008 Conference

The 2008 Summer Learning Institute trained 44 grad students from 12 disciplines at 10 Ontario Universities in issues related to social justice & HIV/AIDS
